Miss Bess Robertson, 1924--2002
On August 3, 2002, Heaven welcomed the arrival of one of God's loveliest servants. "Miss Bess", or "the Bible story lady", as tens of thousands of children knew her, served with CBM Ministries of North AL for over 50 years! She taught Bible classes to public school students in Jefferson, Shelby, DeKalb, & Jackson counties. Before the current property was purchased she served her summers as Camp Director at the various rental locations that CBM of North AL held in the Birmingham area. Once the property was purchased, Miss Bess spent 25 summers at Ponderosa! She served as Camp Director that first summer in 1976 here at Ponderosa. Her ministry to the children of Alabama has enriched the lives of 3 generations. She imparted spiritual wisdom and knowledge to these tender souls in such a way that she left life-long impressions on each child she met! Only God can truly know the fruits of her labor in the Mailbox Club lessons that she so faithfully graded for thousands of children over the 50 years of her ministry! Miss Bess was a 1945 graduate of Moody Bible Institute and a 1956 graduate of Southeastern Bible College.
